2012 – Wrap Art
Category:
Wrap Art
The exhibition open from April till October 2013 explored the history of retail packaging. All kinds of wrapping paper, labels, paper bags and boxes, with various printed decoration, had been selected from the Museum’s own collection, the Museum of Applied Arts, the Museum of Trade and Tourism and some private collections. They ranged from containers of long-forgotten products to items bearing the emblems state socialism of which many people are still familiar. Packaging designs – some never actually put to use – by artists that include Ferenc Helbing, Ernő Jeges, Kató Lukáts, Harry Darilek, Gyula Kaesz and Lajos Kozma were on display. The exhibition also considered the environmental dilemmas posed by paper packaging today. A short animated film explored the natural degradation of paper, and selected paper package works of 27 young students and graphic designers gave a glimpse of what we can expect in the new millennium. The curator of the exhibition was Anikó B. Nagy and the present works were selected by Zsófia Sziray.
