GANZ industrial buildings: New assembly hall and Turbine test facility
GANZ industrial buildings: New assembly hall and Turbine test facility
We documented the Margit Boulevard wing and offices of the former Ministry of Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering (Budapest, 85-87 Margit Boulevard) just before its demolition in March 2014. A few months later, we revisited the Ganz industrial plants’ buildings, the New Assembly Hall and the Turbine Test Facility which was once used for testing turbines, still standing between the former Ministry building and Fény Street. At the time we hoped that these would not be demolished. However, in 2013, the building of the Turbine Test Facility was de-listed on the grounds that it "does not meet the technical criteria for a listed building". Thus, although the ‘Szélllkapu’ tender raised the possibility of preserving these buildings, the demolition of the former Ministry building on Margaret Boulevard, with the aim to improve air quality in the city, the industrial complex will be replaced by a public park and underground car park.
